On Dec. 23, 2007, a small plane carrying three local residents disappeared into a Panamanian jungle. On board were Ms. Klein's daughter, Talia Klein, 13, her ex-husband, Michael Klein, 37, and her daughter's best friend, Francesca Lewis, 12, along with their 23-year-old Panamanian pilot, Edwin Lasso.
Grieving During the Holidays
Grief at the loss of a loved one is an emotionally painful and debilitating condition at any time of the year, as the mind struggles to make sense out of what may seem like the destruction of our internal compass. Time may eventually help heal our wounds, but meanwhile, life goes on as usual for the rest of the world, and that includes holidays. Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukah and New Year’s are the biggest and usually most challenging of all to endure, let alone enjoy.

FOUR years ago Kimberly Klein received the call that would change her life for ever. It was to say her only child, daughter Talia, was missing on a plane in Panama. It came two days before Christmas as Kimberly, now 45, was waiting for 13-year-old Talia to return from a trip to South America.

Healing During The Holidays

The holidays are traditionally a time for celebration. But for Kimberly Klein, there's nothing festive about this time of year.
SOMETIMES LIFE SEEMS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE… Kim Klein had it all – more money than most people dream of, a man of distinction, a mansion befitting such a couple, and Talia, their lovely and talented daughter. Okay, so the marriage had soured, and her now ex-husband wasn’t all she’d thought him to be. Still, they’d had a child together and Kim lived like a queen – at least for a little while, and in spite of her ex’s lies and attempts to get out of paying alimony.
A holiday took a terrible turn for a Santa Barbara family. A plane crashed in 2007 into the side of a volcano in Panama killing three of the four people on board including a 13-year-old girl. The mother is now sharing the emotional story in a new book. As you can imagine, the healing process has been difficult but she found a way. However, it's a healing process some may find controversial.
